What is Sound Healing?

Sound Healing, in various forms has been around for hundreds of years and has been practiced by many cultures around the world.

Sound Healing Meditation is a form a guided meditation (sound being the guide), That stimulates the body and mind through the vibrations of musical instruments being played intentionally for the purpose of remedying suffering. Many people find that sound is a perfect external stimuli for a state of meditation that is more difficult to access without it. In addition to the many scientifically proven physical and mental benefits, the sounds of the instruments can be viscerally inspiring to ones own meditative journey. One may experience simply a hightened state of awareness or calm, or may experience memories coming to the surface in vivid detail or colorful visualizations or even deep spiritual experiences.

How Does It Work?

In our day to day world of living life on this planet, everything that we interact with and everything that we do involves sound. Sound is synonymous with vibration, as all molecules are vibrating and creating a frequency, while only a very small portion of these frequencies can be detectable to the human ear. Because we ourselves are vibrating bodies of molecules, we are greatly affected by all vibrations. Our bodies can resonate and harmonize with each other, and additionally can be “tuned” in the case where certain molecules can be “reminded” of their optimal resonant frequency by a close by powerful sound of the same frequency ( like a singing bowl.)

My approach to sound healing is to provide an intuitive general intervention approach by creating a wash of frequencies and knowing that each participant will be affected by them in different ways. Each persons body vibrates differently and additionally, certain sounds will “mean” something different to each person given their life experiences and their level of perception and sensitivity. In my experience with sound mediation the true cause of suffering may be unconsciously known or unacknowledged, only to be discovered when directly confronted with that issue during the meditation. For this reason i don’t use a chakra based or an intention based approach, and instead help participants to be open minded and mindful to themselves in their own body and mind, allowing them to discover for themselves what they are presented with within themselves given a blank slate.

About Julian

For the last 10 years I have been working in the Chicago area as a professional musican and music teacher.  After moving from my hometown of Boulder CO in 2010, I studied music at Columbia College Chicago and graduated in 2015, which led me to pursue many different musical opportunities as a professional percussionist, songwriter, vocalist and multi instrumentalist. Music has always been my passion and the power of music and sound was made apparent to me at a young age. I also discovered in my upbringing  that I was deeply empathic, and that many times I would be feeling other people's subtle emotions and mistaking them for my own. This caused me to have many issues with anxiety in social settings, but as I opened up to the sensation and began to learn to sort through it I began to see how beautiful it was. it also allowed me to emote through playing music in a much more deep way, and play reactively to what I was feeling in the room. This interconnectedness I felt was very important to me, and i began to realize that music was my language to connect to the source. I was able to go places in expression of sound that could never be achieved with words in the same way. Then I began to connect the dots connecting my music career and my passion for spirituality. I felt called to do something philanthropic and use my gifts as a musician and as an empath. I aspire to connect people to the therapeutic power of intentional sound and help to inspire deep spirituality through music.
