What is Sound Meditation?
Much like guided meditation, sound meditation is a very accessible way to reach a deeper state of meditation through stimulating and soothing sound. The experience helps to reset the nervous system and allow for emotions to process through the body. As sound causes the brainwaves to shift a change in consciousness can occur, creating a state of being that can feel trance like. Participants may experience a spiritual state, a deep emotional release, the mind creating images, or simply a state of deep relaxation. Sound meditation can be a challenging practice in acceptance, and cultivating a non reactive, non judgemental state of awareness. Continued practice can help develop and translate this awareness into every day life.

How Does It Work?
In our day to day world of living life on this planet, everything that we interact with and everything that we do involves sound. Sound is synonymous with vibration, as all molecules are vibrating and creating a frequency, while only a very small portion of these frequencies can be detectable to the human ear. Because we ourselves are vibrating bodies of molecules, we are greatly affected by all vibrations. Our bodies can resonate and harmonize with each other, and additionally can be “tuned” in the case where certain molecules can be “reminded” of their optimal resonant frequency by a close by powerful sound of the same frequency ( like a singing bowl.) Scientific research suggests that sound can influence brainwave activity, entrain neural oscillations, and affect the sympathetic nervous system, allowing one to experience a rest and state of rest and a shift in consciousness.
My approach to sound healing is to provide an intuitive general intervention approach by creating a wash of frequencies and knowing that each participant will be affected by them in different ways. I draw heavily on the teachings of mindfulness meditation to navigate though the experience of observing the state of the body and mind through the experience. it's a journey inward, guided by the intentional vibrations of live instruments that bypass the intellect and speak directly to the soul.
